Some time after I wrote this article I bought a Vox AC15, and I actually use the Reeves and the Vox in a bi-amped setup which I like quite a lot. Interestingly, however, I run all my effects into the AC15, and just put a dry signal into the Reeves - it's so tasty.

If I was to do it again I might try to hold out for the Reeves Custom 30, which I believe is a bit more versatile. I don't think I could make the 10HG work as my only amp. I want too many sounds outside its wheelhouse.

Re: Gearhead - Reeves Custom 10HG

Hi. I was thinking about buying one of these. Whats your take at this point if you still have it? By the title I thought you actually blew yours up! Anyway, I'm not really looking for a one trick pony but I've heard these amps do well with effects. Thanks!

Re: http://oneamp.tumblr.com/post/6744259085

Hey, thanks Kam. It's pretty nerdy (like you described BFD), with a mixer/routing system to send multichannel output to the host, tons of drums built in (and like 6 or 7 expansion packs), envelope/bleed/articulation controls, etc. More than I know what to do with. But I haven't yet thought "I wish my drums could do 'x'" and been foiled. I just had to figure it out.

As far as the sound goes, I guess that's your call. It's on all my "Fortnighter" songs, except the first really crappy one. I'm satisfied, especially considering I don't have to deal with real drum kits, drummers, or drumming.

Re: Recording Rig (and a little history)

How do you find Superior Drummer?

Re: Recording Rig (and a little history)

Interesting - I have a pretty similar set up. I use Logic as well, with my analog going through a PreSonus FireStudio Mobile. My drums are Superior Drummer, and I use Logic's built in amp and effects modeling for most of my guitar sounds. For midi craziness I have a collection of free sample packs and Logic's built in stuff that I use to cobble together sound.

The main thing I'm missing is a pair of monitors. I do all my mixing with my headphones (Sennheiser HD-280s), which is pretty obvious because my songs all sound better with headphones on than through speakers. But my iMac's speakers are absolutely terrible to mix with. That's next on my list.

My one and only mic is an AT4040. The internet bought me that one, when a bunch of people actually paid me to make them theme songs. What a bunch of insanity that was!

It's always fun to read how people set up their studios. Thanks for sharing.

Re: The Release Project

Didn't realise you were a musician - I look forward to hearing the tracks!

Re: Kill My TV? Have you tried:

- The Wire (IMHO the best TV series ever)
- Curb Your Enthusiasm
- Rescue Me
- The Sopranos
- Big Love
- Mad Men
- In Treatment
- Deadwood

I'm sure I've forgotten some, and there are many others I'll get around to trying.

Re: The Sound of One Amp Exploding - The very beginnings of a new track. This is a...

88 was over 20 years ago. Then, all of a sudden, they were gone...went black.
11PM they shut them off.

As surreal watching them go out as it is to imagine the souls of the dead rising through the night's sky.
Great shot

Re: The Sound of One Amp Exploding - Continuing to work on album. This is the first...

prisoner of time...at first, I was hearing moody blues and then I started hearing REM.
Great combination of sound style and rythym

nice job

Re: The Sound of One Amp Exploding - Here’s the first mix to come out of Logic. While...

I likey the synth tracks.

Your piano needs more BOOM. Klinowski and I rented a rehearsal space for a couple hours on Sunday and jammed some stuff out. He still really wants to do the recording, so I'm mentally moving it from a "not happening" to "we'll see".

Re: *cough*

I feel like the drummer in Blue Shift that's gone missing, but in fact I was the guitarist. Same effect though ... MIA

I did discover something really interesting about the project and in fact, myself. That is, I really depend on the 'in person' contact in order to work with others on a project. I like jamming, I like the dialogue, the interaction and the changes that come about in a band setting. The evolution of a song from an idea. Say hi to Klinowski for me ... all the best Loren ... mike

Re: The Sound of One Amp Exploding - Ok so after a period of us not getting much...

Well, he's a real bass player.
